Preliminary task:Front cover

To create this magazine front cover for my preliminary task, I worked with a partner, this being my good friend Daniel Arnold. The software we used was Adobe Photoshop. The first thing we agreed we would do is get a picture of a few students in front of the school. This straight away tells the audience that our magazine is a school magazine. We took influence off other school magazines and found that they uses codes and conventions similar to music magazine such as; a masthead, cover lines, puff, graphical feature with free incentive, and links to social media like Twitter and Instagram. We decided to use fonts in red yellow and black. we used these colours because these are the colours of our school Cardinal Heenan. The font is also in bold and the masthead is in huge font. This is to instantly grab the audiences attention and attract them to the product.

Me and Daniel did a questionnaire to find out what the audience would like in the audience. One of the questions we asked was what price would you pay for a school magazine. The majority of people we asked said between 50p to £1.50, therefore we put the price of the magazine at £1. Another question we asked was what free incentive would be appropriate in a school magazine. We found that most the survey said stationary would be a good idea. Me and Dan agreed that a pencil case would be a perfect free incentive to attract our target audience.
