Compare and contrast
The code and
conventions in the two magazines (Classic Rock and Mojo) have many similarities
and differences. Both magazines include a masthead which stands out because of large
bold lettering. Both magazines include a central image, Classic Rock has an
image of Jimi Hendrix and Mojo has an image of The Beatles, two very influential
figures in world music, which can attract the target audience to buy the
magazines. Both of the magazines central image is a mid-shot which focuses mainly
on the musicians and emphasises what the magazine is mainly about. The two
magazines also include cover lines to give the target audience clues as to
which will be in the magazine. This is clever as it gets the target audience to
read on to find out more about a certain cover line. Another similarity is the graphical
feature which stand out on both magazines. These graphical feature do not match
the colour of the magazine so it is really eye catching. Graphical features are
clever because it makes the target audience want to buy the magazine as it
offers free things inside, an example being on Mojo where the magazine offers a
free tribute CD inside the magazine.
The first
difference that I noticed between the two magazines was the colours. Mojo was
quite dull which colours such as black and grey, whereas Classic Rock was
bright and psychedelic with colours such as yellow and pink. Mojo clearly shows
the Beatles name across the magazine cover in bold writing, whereas Classic
Rock had the name Jimi Hendrix in Very small writing. Classic Rock had a
Headline and a tagline to clearly state what the main story of the magazine
was. However Mojo didn’t have a headline or tagline at all. Another difference
was that Mojo include secondary images, Classic rock did not.
a well set out response. You need to explain why there are differences in the mise en scene of the two publication. for example you talk about the differing colour ways but don't explain why each choses these very specific colours
